About The BLSA

The Britsh Land Speedsail Association was set up in 1986 to look after the sport of Speedsailing in the UK.  The intent was and remains to provide sites to sail, a race series, 3rd party liability insurance and to promote the sport.  Blokarting was added in 2004.

Speedsails are classified Class 7 Land Yachts, and Blokarts are now looked after by the BLSA as well being described as mini-land yachts by FISLY(the International Federation of Sand and Land Yachts if you really want to know!), the international governing body.

Chairman is Chris Moore supported by not only his wife Gill but an executive team composed of active members of the BLSA.  For practical purposes, Chris runs the organization, and in an extraordinarily fair-minded way for the benefit of the membership. Chris is the man with ultimate knowledge of the racing rule book, which while kept as short as possible, still requires some knowing and decision-making ability.

Chris (with a lot of help from others including Graham Bobin) has managed to advance the cause of members by developing a great insurance scheme with Perkins Slade.  This scheme is open to all members and provides better cover than most others available.  It is a major achievement for both sports.

The BLSA works to ensure that the sports are taught and operated in a safe way, with proper regard to use of equipment, other sailors and areas sailed in.  While we cannot and do not seek to make membership compulsory, we think the benefits are enormous and membership only makes sense.
